Apples
I started making these ceramic apples when my dear friend Amy Krouse Rosenthal was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Apples with all their storied associations represent health to me. Creating these became my meditation and hope that Amy would beat the odds. (See initial An Apple a Day collection here.) Now they seed hope for others.
The proceeds of the sale of these apples go to the Amy Krouse Rosenthal Foundation, which funds research for early detection of ovarian cancer. Early detection is the key to adding years of memories and experiences to a woman’s life. A few months can mean the difference between life and death.
Each apple is unique, hand built, beginning with the most basic of clay techniques, a pinch pot. Some get a bit of a stage resting on a Lake Michigan stone while others are just comfortable in their own skin.
